Seagate Launches the World's First 3TB External Drive!
07.28.2010
Seagate (NASDAQ - STX), the leader in hard drives and storage
solutions, has introduced the world’s first three-terabyte external desktop
drive. This surpasses all previous 2 TB limitations. Not only is the drive the
first to break the 3 TB barrier but it does so while remaining reasonably
priced, retailing for $249.99.
Digital content storage continues to evolve at remarkable rates. The world’s
first gigabyte drive was introduced by IBM in 1980 retailing for a staggering
$40,000 and weighing in at 550 pounds. We have come a long way as worldwide
demand for digital content storage in both the home and the office continue to
rise at explosive rates. Dave Mosley, Seagate executive vice president of Sales,
Marketing and Product Line Management, says that “Consumer capacity demands are
quickly out-pacing the needs of business as people continue to collect
high-definition videos, photos and music.” The company states that, “with 3TB of
capacity people can store up to 120 HD movies, 1,500 video games, thousands of
photos or countless hours of digital music.”
The Free Agent GoFlex external drives deliver high-capacity storage and
automatic, continuous backup with software file encryption to help keep all your
data safe and secure. The equipped USB 2.0 interface can easily be upgraded to
USB 3.0 or Firewire 800 by coupling the drive with the applicable GoFlex desktop
adapter allowing you to increase the file transfers performance by up to 10
times. The GoFlex drive is compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems,
including an NTFS driver for Mac allowing for cross-platform compatibility
without reformatting the drive.
