Nikon Announces Its New SB-910 Flagship Speedlight

Nikon has just announced the introduction of the SB-910, their newest flagship speedlight. The Speedlight SB-910 is the successor to the Speedlight SB-900 and provides the user the ability to take studio quality photographs virtually anywhere. Lisa Osorio, Nikon's general manager of marketing states that, "By addressing the needs of photographers that work in challenging lighting scenarios, the SB-910 delivers a new level of portable lighting functionality, with performance and intelligent features that adapt to a wide range of lighting challenges."
The Speedlight SB-910 is part of Nikon's acclaimed Creative Lighting System (CLS) allowing it to be easily incorporated into multiple-flash set-ups as well as function off camera as a commander or remote unit.
While its flash output and specs haven't changed much, major updates for the SB-910 come in the form of a brand-new operating system and graphic user interface (GUI). The SB-910 offers users three different illumination patterns providing the most appropriate lighting option for every environment.
This speedlight is the first to incorporate Nikon's new enhanced Thermal Cut-Out function that protects the flash from overheating damage during prolonged use by slowing shooting time when temperatures get too hot. Also worth mentioning are Nikon's upgraded white-balance filters going from flimsy gel filters to new heat-resistant hard-plastic filters. When the filters are placed on the flash, it detects which filter is being used and automatically adjusts the camera's white balance accordingly. The flash also detects FX/DX-format and automatically optimizes its zoom settings based on what camera body format is used.
The New Nikon SB-910 Speedlight Flash will be available in mid-December 2011 for around $550.
